Mallory Burrell
BFA in Studio Art/BA in Art History
Class of 2015

Mallory Burrell graduated from SOVA with a BFA in Studio Art and a BA in Art History. She recently completed her MFA at James Madison University. During her time as a student at SOVA she always made the conscious decision to have a dedicated space for her studio within walking distance of her home. For Mallory, consistent access is key. So, no matter what else was happening, whether it be a bad snowstorm or car troubles, she made plenty of time to create art in that space. Even when traveling with no access to her regular studio Mallory brought her work and supplies with her so she was continuously engaged in the creative process. Her sketchbook was an integral in maintaining a consistent studio practice. According to Mallory, “I think every artist should learn how to be nomadic in their practice.”

Mallory is now an adjunct instructor at James Madison University in the School of Art, Design, and Art History and is awaiting to embark on a Fulbright fellowship to Sydney, Australia.
