Creative Scholarship and Research:
Rachel Lin Weaver (she/they) is an interdisciplinary media artist working in video, experimental documentary, sound, installation, and performance. Her projects explore the collision of human and nonhuman lives, animal metaphors, memory, loss, and resilience. Influenced by an upbringing in wilderness areas and rural communities in poverty, Weaver finds many useful metaphors in the natural world. Her projects have been shown in many cities in the US as well as in exhibitions in nearly 50 countries since 2010, and her work is held in numerous private and public collections. In addition to an art practice, Weaver is an active documentary and experimental filmmaker. Her research is centered on ecology, creative decolonization, media sovereignty, and fighting for inclusivity, and many of her projects include collaborations with Indigenous communities. Weaver is curator and co-director of Cinema Reset, the new media program of the New Orleans Film Festival, and is a Faculty Affiliate for the American Indian Studies program at Virginia Tech.
